Meet Alex Spencer ✨

Joining us at Co-op Live in Manchester!

We’re so excited to welcome Alex Spencer back to Young Voices for our 30th Anniversary season! From singing in the choir as a school pupil to headlining in his hometown of Manchester, Alex’s journey with YV has come full circle.

We caught up with Alex to hear about his memories of YV, what the experience meant to him, and his advice for this year’s choir members.

What’s it like coming back to Young Voices as a guest artist for the 30th Anniversary?

I feel really grateful and lucky that Young Voices have invited me back as a special guest for the 30th Anniversary. It’s mad because just a couple of weeks before I got the call, I was actually chatting to my dad about how great it was the last time I performed with YV.

2026 is also a personal milestone – it marks 10 years since I first took part in Young Voices back in 2016. I honestly can’t wait to play four nights in my hometown at the incredible Co-op Live, and to perform my songs with everyone. It’s going to be amazing!

Can you remember your first YV performance? What stuck with you the most?

Yeah, I remember it really well! I was in Year 4, and we’d been practising the songs for a couple of months. Everyone was so excited to be singing at the Arena.

I remember we were sat really high up in the stands, and it was incredible hearing all the voices come together. We truly felt part of something huge. I left buzzing!

How did being part of Young Voices help shape your journey in music?

Being part of Young Voices played a big role in my music journey. In many ways, it’s where it all began. It got me into singing at an early age and gave me that first experience of performing with others – something I’ve never forgotten.

What advice would you give to kids singing with YV for the first time?

If it’s your first time singing with Young Voices – or even your first time singing full stop – don’t worry at all. Don’t feel nervous if you think people are watching you or if you’re not doing it perfectly. I’ve felt that too, and honestly, you should be proud of yourself.

You’ll only get better, and singing in YV is one of the coolest things you can do. Just enjoy it!

If your younger self could see you now, what moment would make them proud?

Wow… if younger me could see me now, he’d be buzzing! This was always the dream – to play big stages, to make people happy through music, and to perform my own songs in arenas.

I think he’d be especially proud of my song being featured on FC25 – that was a surreal moment. And of course, coming back to perform at Co-op Live for YV is something younger me would be thrilled about.

If you could describe Young Voices in just three words, what would they be?

Electric. Inspiring. Mind-blowing.
